We start September and a new edition of the Memories of the City arrives, dedicated to the 15 years of Ediciones Polymita.
When we talk about the current Cuban bibliographical production, we must refer to a very particular case that has been erected in a remarkable effort, it is Ediciones Polymita (2007). From the name, its essentially Cuban motif is already evident, and that macro vision that is expanded in each delivery, constitutes a hallmark that combines the essential duality between art and knowledge that a book must have. This primordial element of extolling beauty as a way of interpreting and communicating the essence of the nation has come to define the presence and permanence of Ediciones Polymita in the most avant-garde sphere of our most select and valued publications.
In the world of the printed word, regardless of the attractiveness that should prevail in each delivery, the content matters a lot, and with respect to this, Polymita has built a bibliographical monument of encyclopedic proportions, as wide and diverse as our geography, it is said easy but the certainty of the idea is absolute when the work is appreciated as a whole. Take any copy in your hands and the discovery assists us from the cover, on each page, the image and the text will appear in perfect balance, demonstrating the value of editorial design as a specific tool that defines the singularity expressed in the final art.
The versatility of the themes that concur in the registry of published books and those that are still waiting for the printing press, run through the multiple strata of the Cuban nation and its imprint in other latitudes. Architecture, photography, cultural and natural heritage, arts, history, archaeology, design, the legacy of Ediciones Polymita is a kind of consecrated memorabilia that has its origin in the concerns of Julio Larramendi Joa (Santiago de Cuba, 1954) its founder and editorial director; who, together with the rest of the authors, have formed that vital nucleus of knowledge. In the future, and whenever it is necessary, the luck of having the legacy of the entire editorial production of Ediciones Polymita transcends the mere fact of the printed book, and its infinite value will be determined by knowing that each one possesses what we call the knowledge.
Let's celebrate these fifteen years of Polymita with all the lights that deserve the commitment and perseverance of the interpretation and communication of our identity. We give thanks to Julio Larramendi for his permanence, for the search for the essences and the opportunity of the moment that we now commemorate.
The editor wants to record and thank the authors who have collaborated in this tribute, Dr. Alicia García Santana, Dr. Félix Julio Alfonso López and Msc. Alejandro Hartmann Matos, also to the Msc. Gladys Collazo for her complicity and advice in this issue.
Finally, to the main architect of the experience we are reviewing, Julio Angel Larramendi, without his cooperation, by giving all the covers that appear on the cover, the content of the books and the photos of presentations, this edition would not have been possible.
